New Music from Bon Iver

Bon Iver

Bon Iver has just released two captivating new tracks: ‘Walk Home’ and the collaboration with Danielle Haim titled ‘If Only I Could Wait’. Fans have been eagerly anticipating these singles, and now they’re finally available for streaming!

A Peek into the New Releases

Although these singles were officially released today, eager listeners got a sneak preview yesterday, March 13. This preview was part of an intriguing live stream from In Such A Small Time Frame, a 24/7 trail camera feed and art installation set up by Justin Vernon in Wisconsin’s wooded areas back in October. Since its launch, this project has allowed Vernon to share spontaneous messages with a devoted audience.

Exploring ‘Walk Home’

‘Walk Home’ follows the narrative set by the previously released single ‘Everything Is Peaceful Love’. This track dives into themes of “sex and irrepressible desire,” as highlighted in a press release. Justin Vernon beautifully sings,

“We don’t need no window curtains, We can let the light come in, We can shed your earthly burdens.”

It’s a bold declaration, celebrating intimacy and connection.

The Heartfelt ‘If Only I Could Wait’

On the flip side, ‘If Only I Could Wait’ offers a more poignant reflection. This song captures the essence of new love, portraying "two voices intertwining to illustrate the weariness that can follow the joyous flood of new love, when one may no longer have the strength to be the best version of themselves."

The Upcoming Album ‘SABLE, fABLE’

Both singles will feature on Bon Iver's forthcoming fifth studio album, SABLE, fABLE, set to release on April 11 through Jagjaguwar. The album is already available for pre-order and can be saved via this link: pre-order/pre-save here.

In a thoughtful statement, Vernon explained, “For the second look into fABLE, it couldn’t be a single; it had to be a double. First, ‘Walk Home’ is a romp where you can’t wait to pull your clothes off fast enough and jump inside bed with your one true lover. And then – the two of singles – ‘If Only I Could Wait.’ A duet. A bilateral crying question. How long can the two of us hang on to each other?”

A Long-Awaited Return

‘SABLE, fABLE’ marks Bon Iver's first full-length album since the 2019 release of i, i, following last year’s SABLE EP. The three songs from the EP – ‘Things Behind Things Behind Things’, ‘S P E Y S I D E’, and ‘Awards Season’ – will open the upcoming album.

The album has been primarily recorded at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin and is produced by Vernon himself along with Jim-E Stack. The conceptual roots of the LP began in early February 2022 when Stack collaborated with Haim at the studio.

A Blend of Sound and Emotion

As described in the press release, “Gone are the evasive and dense layers of sound that guarded Justin Vernon’s voice on ‘i, i’ and [2016’s] ‘22, A Million’. The previous four albums were a cycle of seasons that is now complete; ‘SABLE, fABLE’ is a canvas for truth laid bare.”

The description emphasizes that, like fables, each track instills a lesson. The album’s essence reflects “the selfless rhythm required when one is enmeshed with another person or lover – a patient commitment to finding the pace for betterness, and togetherness.”

In a four-star review of Bon Iver’s *2024 EP*, it was noted, “*‘SABLE’ can serve as a reminder of the light at the end of the tunnel, and a reason to push through adversity – to move forward onto a new chapter*.”
