Exciting Album Announcement

After a long wait of nine years, Death In Vegas is back and better than ever! The band has just revealed their upcoming album titled ‘Death Mask’, set for release on June 6. Last seen with their sixth studio LP ‘Transmission’ in 2016, this new project marks a significant return for Richard Fearless and the group.

Unlike their previous albums that featured a host of guest artists, ‘Death Mask’ will be solely crafted by the band itself, promising a more cohesive sound. If you can’t wait to hear it, you can pre-order or pre-save the album here.

New Music to Enjoy

Alongside the album announcement, Death In Vegas has treated fans to not one, but two new tracks! The title track ‘Death Mask’ and ‘While My Machines Gently Weep’ are already available for listening. Check out the official music video for ‘Death Mask’ below:

What Inspired ‘Death Mask’?

In an interview, Fearless opened up about the creative influences that shaped this new album. He shared, “I’ve been soaking in Ramleh’s Hole In The Heart, the machine funk of Terrence Dixon’s ‘Population One’, Jamal Moss’ psychedelic techno jams, the stunning minimalism of Mika Vanio’s ‘Ø’ and Pan Sonic, the layered drones of LOOP, and drowning in the acid of TM404.”

He added, “Most centrally though, I’ve been inhaling the deepest dub, from Mark Ernestus’ distillations to the principles of originators like King Tubby and Scientist. As someone who’s always been obsessed with the genre, I loved the idea of recording live takes as separate stems, then doing dub-inspired mixes of these stems through my console.”

Moreover, Fearless discussed the unique gear he used during production, noting, “Some of the gear I use has a tendency to take on a life of its own – for example, the Effectron delay, which Arthur Russell also used. It was feeding back on itself, and ended up sounding like a radio conversation – literally voices from within the machine. On the Echoplex, the tape has never been changed. It’s eroded by the hands of time. When you record over the tape, things bleed in from what was there before, like people from the past.”
