Little Simz Discusses Lawsuit Against Inflo: A Journey of Frustration and Hurt

Little Simz opens up about her lawsuit against Inflo, expressing her frustration and hurt over the situation.

The Lawsuit Unveiled

Little Simz

Little Simz, the talented UK rapper, has bravely shared her experience of filing a lawsuit against her former producer, Inflo. She described the emotional turmoil, stating she was “really frustrated and hurt.” This legal action has brought to light a range of grievances that Simz has faced.

Recently, it was revealed that Simz, whose real name is Simbiatu Ajikawo, filed a claim against Dean “Inflo” Cover, who is not only the founder of the musical group SAULT but also the producer behind several of her critically acclaimed albums, including the 2019 project ‘GREY Area’, the Mercury Prize-winning ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert’ from 2021, and her 2022 release ‘No Thank You’.

Allegations Against Inflo

The lawsuit accuses Inflo of withholding substantial loans that Simz had extended to him, amounting to £1.7 million, for over a year. Additionally, she claims that Inflo failed to provide proper accounting for funds that Sony had allocated for recording expenses.

Among the poignant allegations, Simz asserts that she lent Inflo £1 million to secure the only SAULT show to date, which took place at Drumsheds in London. The lawsuit stipulates that Inflo was supposed to repay Simz by early December 2023, but claims he failed to meet this obligation. Consequently, Simz found herself unable to fulfill her tax liabilities, incurring interest charges as a result.

Simz's Creative Journey Amidst Legal Struggles

Inflo has yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit. In a recent interview, Simz shed light on the challenges she faced while working on her new album, ‘Lotus’, which is set for release on June 6. During the creative process, she started and subsequently abandoned four separate album projects, all of which she claims were developed in collaboration with Inflo.

“They were great, but it’s more the situation of who I made them with,” Simz explained regarding the scrapped albums. “In letting go of that relationship, I had to let go of that music… It’s like having a kid with someone. You might split with the person, but you don’t just stop loving the kid.”

Hints of What's to Come

Simz’s upcoming album, ‘Lotus’, has already teased fans with the single ‘Flood’. Interestingly, it seems that the opening track of ‘Lotus’ will directly address her situation with Inflo, featuring poignant lyrics: “I’m lucky that I got out now / It’s a shame, I really feel sorry for your wife…This person I’ve known my whole life, coming like a devil in disguise.”

Reflecting on the emotional weight of her situation, Simz told the outlet: “I was really frustrated and hurt, and I wanted to scream. But it’s tricky starting off on that foot sometimes.”

A Longstanding Connection

The relationship between Simz and Inflo dates back to their childhood when they met at St. Mary’s Youth Club in London. Their collaboration has been marked by significant musical accomplishments, with Simz appearing alongside Inflo’s wife, Cleo Sol, and artist Michael Kiwanuka during the notable Drumshed show.

Upcoming Projects and Performances

Before the release of ‘Lotus’, Simz will be curating the 2025 edition of the Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre. She is also set to perform a unique orchestral show as part of the festival. Other artists, including The Streets, Lola Young, Ghetts, Jon Batiste, and Yukimi from Little Dragon, will also grace the stage throughout the 11-day event.

Moreover, fans can look forward to Simz’s biggest solo headline shows this October at Manchester’s Co-Op Live and London’s O2. Tickets for these events are currently available, so don’t miss out!
