The trio also includes KJ ‘Moose’ McKillop and Oliver Cherer, and they're gearing up for the release of their inaugural album, ‘Tripla’, set to drop on April 4 via Bella Union. So far, they’ve tantalized fans with the previous singles ‘Vertigo’ and ‘8th Deadly Sin’.
A Dreamy Commentary on Toxic Masculinity
‘Big I Am’ is not just your average track; it’s a dreamy and lightly psychedelic experience that dives deep into the themes of toxic masculinity and the detrimental influence of social media figures, notably Andrew Tate. It’s a bold statement wrapped in an ethereal sound.

In Berenyi's Own Words
Miki Berenyi shared her thoughts on the inspiration behind ‘Big I Am’:
“I’ve witnessed 50+ years of the trends in masculinity and frankly, nothing much changes – as ever, there are good men and there are shit men, and there are boys who can be misguided but easily mature into the best of their sex. But this latest incarnation of ‘winning’ the sex war is a laughably infantile and willfully regressive new low.”
It’s clear that Berenyi’s insights stem from a lifetime of observation and experience, making this single even more poignant.
Looking Back: Lush and Personal Reflections
Berenyi has recently opened up about the breakup of her former band, Lush, following their reunion gigs in 2016. She reflected on the complexities of her relationship with fellow band member Emma Anderson, revealing that it often fluctuated between great and nasty moments.
“Sometimes it was great. Sometimes it could be nasty,” she confessed. “I didn’t write about it in my book because I didn’t want it to be like Morrissey’s autobiography, with pages of boringly minute detail on the trial. But there was a falling out and, if I’m honest, it still hurts.”
New Ventures and Creative Output
In 2018, Berenyi formed a supergroup called Piroshka alongside Justin Welch from Elastica, KJ McKillop from Moose, and Michael Conroy from Modern English. Their debut album, ‘Brickbat’, was released in early 2019 through Bella Union.
Additionally, she penned her memoir, Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me From Success, in 2022. In it, she candidly discusses her turbulent childhood and experiences in the ‘90s music scene.
