New Ozzy Osbourne Documentary Highlights Rocker's Health Struggles

The upcoming Ozzy Osbourne documentary explores the rocker’s devastating health setbacks, including his battles with Parkinson’s disease.

Introduction to the Documentary

Ozzy Osbourne in 2022

A new documentary focused on the legendary rock star Ozzy Osbourne is set to hit screens soon. This feature-length film aims to delve into the serious health challenges the iconic metal artist has faced over recent years.

Behind the Scenes of "Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now"

The production company Echo Velvet, known for its BAFTA accolades, shared the exciting news about the documentary, titled Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now, earlier this year on February 25. The much-anticipated film will be available for streaming on Paramount+ later this year.

The documentary aims to "peer behind Ozzy’s public persona to unveil the devastating setbacks he has experienced since his life-altering fall in 2019," according to an announcement from the production team. This project is being developed in partnership with MTV and the Osbourne family, with Tania Alexander, a co-creator of Channel 4’s Gogglebox, taking the director's chair.

Health Challenges Explored

The film offers a raw glimpse into the drastic changes in Osbourne's life following his infamous fall in 2019, which forced him to postpone a farewell solo tour due to pneumonia. That same year, he also received a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.

Osbourne expressed his struggles, stating, “The last six years have been full of some of the worst times I’ve been through. There’ve been times when I thought my number was up. But making music and making two albums saved me. I’d have gone nuts without music.”

His wife, Sharon, further emphasized the documentary's importance, describing it as “an honest account of what has happened to Ozzy during the last few years.” She elaborated on the difficulties Ozzy has faced and the courage he has shown in dealing with his health issues, including Parkinson’s. "It’s about the reality of his life now. We have worked with a production team we trust and have allowed them the freedom to tell the story openly. We hope that story will inspire people that are facing similar issues to Ozzy.”

Filming and Future Plans

Filming for the documentary commenced in 2022 during the recording sessions for Osbourne's solo album, Patient Number 9. The production will continue into the summer as Osbourne gears up for the Back To The Beginning concert at Birmingham's Villa Park in 2025.

This landmark event is slated to be the final concert for both Black Sabbath as a band and for Osbourne himself, marking his return to the stage after a seven-year hiatus. Fans can look forward to witnessing the original lineup of Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward performing together again.

Rock Legends Unite for One Last Show

Several renowned names in rock and metal, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Tool, and Alice In Chains, have already been confirmed for the concert. The proceeds from the event will support worthy causes such as Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Sharon shared that Ozzy is feeling “very emotional” about this final gig. "You can’t say goodbye. Look at what they leave – it’s a huge, great body of work that they’ve left for the world. As long as you’ve got that, it’s never goodbye. It’s there for eternity," she remarked. She also highlighted Ozzy's desire to express gratitude to his fans, a chance he feels was lost due to his illness.

Guitarist Tony Iommi thanked the participating bands, stating, “It’s going to be quite the event to take in with everybody. I won’t be standing there all day, that’s for sure. It’s going to be great that they’re all up there for us.”

Ticket Sales and Streaming Options

Tickets for the concert went on sale on February 14 and sold out almost instantly. However, fans still have the opportunity to find resale tickets here. Additionally, fans can relive Black Sabbath's legacy through their 2013 concert film, Live... Gathered In Their Masses, which is currently streaming for free on YouTube.
