R. Kelly Claims He’s Written 25 Albums While Incurring Prison Time
R. Kelly has written 25 albums and continues to make music while in prison. Read on to learn more about his ongoing creative journey behind bars.
R. Kelly’s Musical Endeavors in Prison
R. Kelly has revealed that he hasn’t let his prison time stop his passion for music. The infamous artist claims to have written 25 albums while serving his sentence, and continues singing and creating music even behind bars.
This comes in the wake of Kelly's conviction for multiple serious charges. He was found guilty of six out of 13 counts related to owning and producing child pornography, as well as enticing a minor, in September 2022. Additionally, he was convicted in 2021 of racketeering and sex trafficking. Currently, R. Kelly is serving a hefty 31-year sentence.
A Peek into His Podcast Appearance
In a recent episode of the podcast Inmate Tea with A&P, Kelly discussed his artistic pursuits during incarceration. When asked if he continued to create music, he responded passionately:
“Well, singing is a beautiful disease that’s incurable. That’s not gonna happen, stopping singing. I don’t care where I’m at. I’m always singing, I’m always writing. I’ve written, like, 25 albums since I been in here, and right now I’m just working on getting out…I’m using patience as a tactic right now.”
During this episode, Kelly even performed a couple of his classic tracks, “When a Woman’s Fed Up” and “Step in the Name of Love,” showcasing that his spirit remains undeterred.
Allegations from His Daughter
In more troubling news, R. Kelly's daughter, Buku Abi, recently made headlines for discussing her alleged experiences of sexual abuse during her childhood. She opened up in the first episode of R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, claiming:
“He was my everything. For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened.”
Abi conveyed her fears about revealing the abuse, stating, “I was too scared to tell anybody. I was too scared to tell my mom.” She shared painful memories of waking up to him touching her, ultimately leading her to speak to her mother and police. Unfortunately, due to the delay in reporting, they couldn’t prosecute him.
In response to these allegations, Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, issued a statement claiming that Kelly “vehemently denies” the allegations. Bonjean mentioned:
“His ex-wife made the same allegation years ago, and it was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and was unfounded. The ‘filmmakers,’ whoever they are, did not reach out to Mr. Kelly or his team to even allow him to deny these hurtful claims.”
