Sam Fender has recently taken a trip down memory lane by going vinyl shopping in celebration of Record Store Day 2025. This event is a fantastic opportunity for music lovers to connect with their favorite artists and explore the vibrant world of independent record shops. Fender, who has been named this year's Record Store Day Ambassador, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, which takes place on April 12. Over 270 independent record shops throughout the UK, along with many globally, will be participating.

Fender’s Record Picks

At Hackney’s Stranger Than Paradise, Fender selected five standout records that resonate with his musical journey. Reflecting on his personal connection to vinyl, he mentioned that he only started visiting record stores in his twenties thanks to the vinyl resurgence: “It’s the best way of showing support for the artists that you like.”

Among his selections were some timeless classics, including Nick Drake’s Pink Moon—which he labeled an “absolute classic”—and Tom Petty’s Into The Great Wide Open, which he called “a beast of an album.”

He also reminisced about the Talking Heads' debut album, '77. Fender shared a nostalgic moment from his past: “This album, when I was [in] my first ever band, my bass player’s foster dad was like, ‘Never heard of Talking Heads?’ [He] had it on CD – it was the first time I’d ever heard them and it was this album. It was like, whoa – that’s interesting.”

Fender didn't just focus on the classics; he also highlighted contemporary artists like Big Thief with their album U.F.O.F, which he adored since its release, and MJ Lenderman’s Manning Fireworks, which he humorously described as his “shower song for a while.”

The Full Line-Up for Record Store Day 2025

The excitement doesn’t stop there! The complete list of releases for Record Store Day 2025 will feature exclusive vinyl from a plethora of artists, including Oasis, Charli XCX, Fred.. Again, The Cure, Gorillaz, Taylor Swift, and many more. You can check out the full list on the official Record Store Day website. Speaking on his role as an ambassador, Fender expressed that it was “a complete honour to be asked.”

Fender emphasized the crucial role of indie stores, stating, “The importance of indie stores cannot be understated. Without them, we lose physical spaces for music fans to discover both their favorite new artists and to forge friendships with like-minded people.”

New Music on the Horizon

To commemorate this event, Fender will be releasing a six-track 12-inch vinyl record titled Me And The Dog. This EP is a follow-up to his recent album People Watching, which was praised for being “reflective, analytical and vulnerable.”

He described Me And The Dog as something that “at one point was going to be the name of the new album, so it just feels right that it should have its own moment.” This EP will also feature two unreleased tracks: “I’m Always On Stage” and “Empty Spaces.”

Fender has also revealed that he is currently working on his next album and has announced additional dates for his upcoming UK stadium tour in the summer. This tour includes shows at Wythenshawe Park in Manchester on August 16, Edinburgh Summer Sessions on August 22, and Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast on August 28 as part of the VITAL Series. Supporting acts for the first two shows will be Olivia Dean, while CMAT will be opening the show in Belfast.

In the ever-evolving landscape of music, there remains a special place for vinyl, a format that connects fans to the roots of their favorite sounds. As Fender shows us, the act of searching for and collecting records is a celebration of artistry and community.
