Stevie Nicks Is Back!
The legendary Stevie Nicks has exciting news for her fans: she is working on a new album, which will be her first in 14 years. This was announced during her acceptance speech at the Pollstar Hall of Fame, where she was honored by music industry titan Jimmy Iovine.
All About the New Album
During her speech, Nicks revealed, “I’m actually making a record right now.” She affectionately refers to it as the "Ghost" record, explaining that the inspiration came to her in the last couple of weeks.
“I have seven songs and they are autobiographical, real stories where I’m not pulling any punches for probably the first time in my life,” she shared. “They’re not airy-fairy songs that you’re wondering who they’re about, but you really don’t get it. They are real stories, memories of mine, of fantastic men.”
Inspiration Behind the Music
Nicks reflected on her friendship with the iconic Prince, which served as a significant source of inspiration for the album. She recounted a memorable meeting with him after the premiere of Purple Rain, saying, “Watching Prince slap the film’s love interest Apollonia caused me to ‘freak out’ and ‘go to the fancy bathroom and sit there for the rest of the whole movie.’”
When she told Prince she loved the first half of the film and presented him with a beautiful 24-carat necklace, he candidly replied, “I don’t want your necklace... You never bring me you.”
A Glimpse Into the Future
The album was also written during a challenging time for Nicks, as she was evacuated from her Los Angeles home during recent wildfires. This poignant backdrop adds even more depth to the album's content.
In the same speech, she mentioned that Jimmy Iovine would be the next man she writes about, hinting at personal stories yet to come.
