A New Chapter for Sum 41
Canadian pop-punk band Sum 41 has officially released a cover of Rage Against The Machine's ‘Sleep Now In The Fire’ as a part of their farewell. This momentous release comes as they prepare to close the curtain on their musical journey.
In late 2023, the band announced their plans to break up following one final album and a farewell world tour called ‘Tour Of The Setting Sum’. Their emotional shows culminated earlier this year, featuring 13 performances across their home country, Canada. Spotify Singles and Fresh Releases
As part of the Spotify singles series, Sum 41 also dropped a fresh version of ‘Landmines’ from their upcoming album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’.
“Recording these Spotify Singles has been an incredible way to celebrate with our fans around the world. We’re so grateful for their support and excited to share this special session with everyone,” the band expressed.

Revisiting Their Strength
Last summer, guitarist Dave Baksh and bassist Jason "Cone" McCaslin reflected on how the band has grown stronger in recent years, especially after Deryck Whibley overcame significant health issues.
“After taking about two years off for Deryck to address his health problems, when we got back together, it just felt right,” Cone said in an interview. “The whole rollercoaster journey of our career has led us to this moment, and it feels amazing to be performing at bigger festivals and higher up on the bill now.”
A Meaningful Last Album
In an interview, Deryck Whibley shared how they felt about their latest album, ‘Heaven :x: Hell’.
“I feel really good about this album, which is why I felt it should be the last one. We didn’t know we’d be splitting up when we were making it, but I’ve been making records and touring with this band since I was 15,” he revealed.
He continued, “I’ve had this feeling for a long time now that I want to do something different and it just feels like the right time. This album feels like the perfect way to go out. I care too much about the fans and what we’ve built as a band to let that happen just because it’s a good paycheck.”
A Tribute to Rage Against The Machine
This isn’t the first time Sum 41 has covered ‘Sleep Now In The Fire’. They previously paid tribute to Rage Against The Machine with a spirited rendition recorded at Hellfest 2023.
In response to Rage Against The Machine’s retirement from live performances, Sum 41 posted on social media expressing their admiration for what they consider “one of [their] all-time favorite bands.” They performed the track during their set at Hellfest in June 2023, sharing their heartfelt respect in the post’s caption.
Legal Troubles and Controversies
Earlier this year, Whibley and the band’s former manager Greig Nori found themselves embroiled in legal issues, with Whibley alleging that Nori had subjected him to years of sexual and verbal abuse. Nori has denied these allegations and subsequently counter-sued for breach of confidence and wrongful disclosure of private facts.
