Released alongside the Era 300, the Era 100 is the perfect companion to its larger and pricier sibling, offering a wealth of streaming features and excellent sound in a neat and user-friendly design.

At a significant price of $580 for the Era 300, it can be off-putting, making the Era 100 a five-star choice for anyone looking to access the premium side of what Sonos is doing. Like its bulkier counterpart, the 100 model provides an open sound, a fantastic sense of rhythmic drive, and all the details and accuracy you could expect for that price. The Sonos app is straightforward to use, equipped with numerous streaming features and made as well and reliably as you would expect from a brand confidently heading into 2025.

Again, Sonos rarely offers what could be called "budget" options in the best wireless speaker category, and we aren't thrilled about shelling out extra money for a wired connection, but if you're willing to spend a decent amount without breaking the bank, then the Era 100 is the wireless speaker for you. Once you power it up and see its colorful light sphere rotate (when Siri is listening or processing information), you'll understand the sophisticated, cool performer you have in your hands.

The sound quality is excellent for its size, and it’s loud enough to fill a room (within reasonable limits). From the moment we started playing music, it was clear that the HomePod Mini significantly surpasses its size and price, adding sophistication and maturity to a decent number of decibels. Siri serves as your voice assistant, and after a brief learning period, it will respond to the phrase “Hey Siri, play something I like” not with what you’ve listened to most in the past few weeks, but with what you likely haven’t heard before, matching your current preferences and tastes. With its unique "hourglass" shape, the Era 300 requires more careful consideration than most of the brand's more conservative models, but in terms of performance, the five-star Era 300 is a true masterpiece.

Whatever you place on the Era 300 will likely be handled seamlessly, filling our test rooms with spacious, cohesive sound without straining. Large choral pieces resonate widely and thrillingly thanks to one of the best spatial sounds we've ever heard, but the Era 300 seems to excel with all genres and tastes. Yes, paying extra for a wired connection is somewhat outrageous, but the Era 300 has earned the right to be a little cheeky.

Now, about four years later, we still recommend it as one of the best wireless models for its price.

When we tested its older sibling, we compared it to models that cost nearly twice as much, and we found it easily outperformed them, which remains the case against many cheaper competitors. The C10 MkII has become even more appealing thanks to significant periodic discounts, although new contenders like the HomePod 2, Sonos Era 100, and Era 300 mean you should explore each model to understand what each offers in terms of discounts and promotions.

What cannot be argued is that the C10 MkII has three streaming options for multiple rooms (AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, and its own elegant and functional Audio Pro app), along with powerful bass and improved playback quality, making it a lasting favorite. It may have gotten slightly pricier now, but this old dog remains a great option that could become a very sensible choice now that its price is dropping and big discounts are appearing.

5. Apple HomePod 2 – Best Wireless Speaker from Apple

While it looks very similar to its predecessor, inside it is a completely different beast, and for Apple, it’s a clear step forward in terms of sound. Our tests showed that the HomePod 2 is one of the best-sounding smart speakers in its category, with clean, warm vocals and boundless, infectious enthusiasm that makes listening engaging and captivating.

The deep integration with the Apple ecosystem also makes setting up the second-generation HomePod incredibly simple. Paired with the iPhone, you only need to find the speaker and follow a few on-screen commands for it to be fully operational and integrated into your smart home. The entire process took us just a few minutes, and we can't imagine anyone finding it particularly challenging.

There’s even a clever process where the speaker uses built-in sensors to optimize sound settings based on its placement in the room. Testing this feature, moving it closer to the wall in the listening room, our reviewers could hear how the HomePod 2 adjusted the sound in real-time. This is quite impressive considering it’s just a wireless speaker.

The only real downside to the HomePod 2 is that it’s designed for those embedded in the Apple ecosystem, which may limit its appeal to everyday listeners. Services like Tidal or BBC radio still don’t work with Siri (Apple Music, of course, works), which diminishes its attractiveness for those not entirely immersed in the Apple ecosystem.

You can choose olive, terracotta, or peacock grilles alongside the standard black, but the best changes made by Naim concern more than just aesthetics. Remove the grille of any color you’ve chosen, and you’ll be rewarded with improved and optimized midrange and bass drivers, delivering a total of 300W for serious sound impact.

Despite its boxy dimensions, the Mu-so Qb 2nd generation delivers powerful bass along with vibrant and rich tones across all frequencies. It has won numerous awards for the best home wireless speaker costing over $620 and continues to win accolades. This is a remarkable achievement, and few products, regardless of form or price, manage to achieve such recognition.

Listen to the Qb, and you'll understand why such honors are deserved, even after all this time. Truly an outstanding performer with remarkable longevity.

KEF was not lying. The award-winning KEF LSX II reproduces nearly everything that made the LSX II a double award winner, delivering such a musical and detailed sound that it’s "almost faultless when compared directly." It's so good that it's pushed the original version out of the spotlight and made it a prize winner.

The LSX II LT makes the standard model even more accessible by lowering the price without sacrificing quality. In 2023, the LSX II was awarded "Best Speaker" at its level, but now the LT version is a more advantageous option. It simply lacks wireless connectivity between speakers, an AUX input, and several color options, but the price drops by $530, making it a smart deal.

By taking an excellent system and optimizing it without sacrificing sound, KEF has succeeded. If you’re looking for a stereo speaker system that’s easy to use and pleasant to listen to, this is your answer.

This extensive selection makes this powerful AC-powered speaker an incredibly versatile solution that goes beyond what a traditional wireless speaker can offer.

Moreover, there are physical connections. The C20 provides several RCA inputs and HDMI ARC for improving your TV sound, as well as a subwoofer output if you want to connect one. There’s also an optical input for connecting to digital sources, and a MM phono preamp if you plan to connect a turntable to the C20.

Additionally, it boasts sound. Remarkably, this speaker with a koala-like face (some team members think it resembles a koala, while others see it as a giant Lego cube) creates an extensive and open sound landscape, offering a presentation that breathes and expands, creating a beautiful sense of scale for your music and movies. In this vast sound landscape, numerous details and nuances stand out, each finding its place in the overall composition.

• Apple HomePod Mini 2: It's been a long time coming for a new HomePod, and according to the ever-reliable Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, a new Mini could emerge in mid to late 2025. New models will feature their own Apple chip, integrating Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and supporting Wi-Fi 6E—a significant upgrade from the current HomePod Mini that uses the older Wi-Fi 4 standard.
• Apple HomePod with a Screen: We call it the “HomePod with a screen” partly because that’s supposed to be its distinguishing feature and partly because we don’t know if the new model will officially be called HomePod 3 / HomePod (third generation). It might replace both the Mini and the main lineup, serving as a standalone unit, but we suspect the new device will phase out the second generation main lineup and make room for the new Mini 3.
• Harmon Kardon Enchant Speaker System: The new Harmon Kardon Enchant series consists of two Dolby Atmos soundbars, a wireless subwoofer, and the Enchant Speaker, which work together to form a wireless surround sound system. With support for AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Bluetooth, along with numerous features, the Enchant system can also operate as a standalone device.
